I am hoping to build WZ-4 this year. I will move the 285 to it and put the 250 back where it was. Could be a good year for team AOA folding.

We have a lot more i7s and Nvidia G80+ cards around in the hands of AOA members than are folding, they make a huge difference, hell even old quads like mine do.

Q9450 / Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz == ~6000-8000PPD
Nvidia 8800GT = ~4500-5800ppd
Nvidia 9800GT = ~4700-6000ppd

Not cutting edge hardware, but that adds up hugely, if you have a better GPU than that, and an i7, you can pull 20k+ PPD without braking a sweat, anyone that is keen to know how to best go about it, ThunderRd and various others are a really good source of knowledge and can help you get started.

Yes I7 is in my future. This being on the back of the cutting edge is a bummer. But, other obligations have held me back. Still it is better to fold only a little if that is all one can do ranter than do nothing. One of my folding rigs is an old HP with an Athlon 2200 in it. I built a system for a woman more than a few years ago. I asked about her old system. She had thrown it in the garbage. I literally went through her trash took it home put in a spare HDD I had and my wife used it for the next 50 or 6 years. Rather than pitch it. it just folds the best it can. My wife now runs a E8400 on a P5Q with a 8800GTX and she let me set it up for folding.
Well now that I have blabbed on here. I will take my leave and go see how much i have done thus far today!!

Let's all fold now AOA

I too would like to run gpu2 under linux/wine. because I have had almost no time to work on it, I went back to XP. that will be temporary tho. I will get some time after graduation and before football. oh, a whopping 75 days. during (college) football season I average 6 days a week for 4 months. I really rest on Sunday

I have everything folding again and don't want to rock the boat. throwing a new vid card to the mix is all I can do for a while. will it be a Fermi card? will I be frugal and lower my sights? mb, mem, cpu and gpu together won't happen till December but I'm catching TR by then anyway.

#3 & #4 Phenom 9600 Quad Core (SMP)
MSI nVidia 9800GT (GPU2)

#5 Phenom II 925 (SMP)
MSI nVidia 9800GT (GPU2)

#6 Single Core skt939 not Folding (not worth it)
MSI 9600GT (GPU2)

#7 is my daughters, a single core Pentium. she won't let me put a cuda card in it. it's folding anyway.

all that and I sold three folders so I coud buy more stuff. next up for the garage sale are the 9800's and the 9600. I plan on having their replacements in place by the end of June. going for GTX275/285 cards.

when the GPU3 for the Fermi cards is out, I'll have to get one of those. can hardly wait to here how the 6 core AMD's handle SMP.

Fold on!

That is some serious folding power

I have to tell you guys that this 285GTX is folding on this machine with the clocks set at 800GPU 1900Shaders 1400 mem. This card OC's like mad!!! I have been playing with it a bit today trying to get to know it a
little better.I think I'm in love.
We will bring the AOA up a bit with these cards!!
Now if we could get more of our group back to folding we could blow away the teams just ahead of us. We could have a little celbration for climbing back into the top 100

Now for those of you who still aren't folding yet I have to ask,

For those of you who do not start folding soon I will come to you and personally persuade you

Get it? Good, now start folding

Seems like guides for anything linux have about a 3 month shelf life. I've written 2 and both are obsolete.

I have to make a few changes to my rig and reinstall Arch, but I'll kick some WU's out pretty soon.

Yea I know what you mean on that, Gizmo upgraded to Fedora 13 and couldn't fold at all. I'm about to do some poking to get GPU3 working and see if its worth grabbing a fermi.

Yeah, but that appears to be due more to the fact that the folding client is statically linking some files that have dynamic dependencies, with the result that the thing pukes all over itself. They need to either do a full static linkage of all dependencies, or do a full dynamic linkage.

After a year of being on a 32 bit linux installation I have finally managed to get a perfect working 64 bit install going. I figure while I'm waiting for upstream to break my perfect working install I may as fold with it.

What's required to get a GPU going under linux these days? Are we still stuck with older drivers?

Ah... I /think/ last I checked mine was working with fairly recent drivers, like 260.x or something but with an older version of cuda toolkit.

It should work with current drivers under WINE. Personally I'm really waiting for a native linux client, but IDK when that will happen.
