dual vid cards

I tried the dual card setup again. found that only ONE card was doing all the work and that about 83%. going to check the install faq and try it again!

update:
psu problems were causing most of my problems with the two card setup. BFG 1000 will fix that problem. (2x MSI GTX 250)
Antec 1200 to power another Asus M3n-HT-Delux and 2X Evga GTX 285's.
the Evga GTX 295 will have to work alone with an Enermax 720 when it gets here (the psu!).
so far I down 4 GPU's and 2 CPU's and making 50K/day. I'm so ready to get them all workin at the same time!

Ron

**edit** underestimated the drop in points. waiting for the UPS, FedEx and USPS to deliver the goods.

what was it that BigRed used to say? oh yea, "GET BUSY FOLDING or GET BUSY DYIN'"

thanks for the props. as it was when I was wingman and proud of it also.
I got lucky and have saved enough to update some folders.
that seems like a constant process. running 24/7 on oem parts is risky business.

and lately the heat has been giving the boxen fits. had to down-clock the GTX295. not enough power to run the 2XGTX285 (YET) and they sit idle with the new board, ram and HDD. a new cpu is in the works too.
will try 64bit win7 Pro when the psu gets here. I may give Linux another go. it's a matter of too little time to fish, work, sleep, fold, work, sleep, eat, work, feed the cat, sleep, work.
ok, ok. I'll stop complaining and get back to folding. after my nap.

Ron

Have you thought about a second power supply? It's not difficult, just a relay soldered into the 12V line to start it up with the master. It might overcome your problem with zero expense, if you have a free PS around.

How did you know one card was doing most of the work?
Is there a program that shows you the benchmarks or speeds of each card separately during a game?

I'm running two 9700 GS in SLI with a good Enermax 450 (I think) Power Supply. They seem to be running fine and I have noticed an improvement in frame rates, but I was hoping for even more....

nothing I know for benching separately. maybe PCWizzard, Sandra?

Evgs Precision was showing GPU1 usage @ 85% and GPU2 usage @ 0%.
Fahmon showed progress on #1. no progress on #2.

it was all in the way I got it set up the first time. young grasshopper faild to head the master. the fly in my warm rice water is protein.

EVGS precision? I'll look into that.
I wonder if my video drivers will tell me....
The game I am currently playing in SLI is Two Worlds. I got some better frame rates after I added the second card, but I kinda assumed it would be twice as good, which I know isn't always true with SLI

My bad spelling: it's 'EVGA Precision' video card tweaking utility. and as you are running
in SLI, the cards are 'Linked' and you should see a bit of an increase in frame rates.

while folding, SLI must be disabled. both cards will work alone and a second moniter or a dummy plug for the second card. then expand the desktop to the second card/monitor.
there you can see the performance of the cards individually. especially good for Folding.

Ron

you're right of course. I am a little fast on the gas (impatient)

it's a good guide. not written for Dyslexics. took a while to get it sorted out.

and now, back to folding. Christmas IS coming.

the thought had crossed my mind. I have a few that could do the job. so far I've upgraded some psu's:
Apevia Warlock 900W
OCZ 1000W
BFG 1000W
ABS Majesty 1100W
Antec 1200W.
might have a handle on the power issue.

now it's just a matter of time before the rest of the parts get here.
