After open beta testing and further development this core may very well support native Linux...so no more WINE would needed for GPU folding in Linux. This may take some time, though, after the Windows client is released.

I have also heard that this new GPU client will make better use of the great shaders on the Ati cards. Now that I have my 4870 folding I will hopefully see PPD over my current `2600. Maybe they will be comparable to the GTX260's.

A proper linux client would be nice. Folding was the only reason I had wine installed, but I had to make some changes to the kernel so I can no longer run the nvidia drivers that work in wine. I've also moved back to 32 bit due to it be a bit more reliable and having more predictable results
