New addition to the TRd family

(Folding family, that is )

I hinted recently that I smelled some new hardware in the works, and have placed the order today-

Arriving in a week or so, in all of its 448 shader glory:

Nice results on that one, looks like almost 18k/day at 3.00 flat if you could get the same WU consistently.

People starting to report 15-17k on 470s, about 18-20 on 480s. Will have to see how far the shaders can be pushed, that's where the real gains will be evident. I'm also seeing some waterblocks already coming out for the Fermis. I might be interested in that if heat holds the overclock back, but I haven't found that shader overclocking really heats the cards up like GPU speeds.

I wonder... can you up the voltage by tweaking the bios on these cards anymore? Back when I had my 6800GT I had it overvolted a fair bit for a nice OC, wonder if that's still possible

You know Koolance has a 470 block that I'd been looking at, not cheap, but not as bad as the swiftech blocks price wise. Looks supurb, that's for sure.

Interesting...

This 470 /could/ bring you back to your top spot. Unless Daeberman has something up his sleave.

Arms races are interesting.

Ron ALWAYS has something up his sleeve. He's been sneaking up on me for a year now. Nothing staggering, just sneaking...he reckons it's fait accompli that he passes me by New Year. I have to rise to the occasion, I think

I modded the BIOS on my 9600s and got some extra voltage there. Take a peek at the BIOS file in NiBiTor and see if you have the field in there.

I just took a look in my logs on the Q6600. I haven't gotten one of those 6050s as yet, but I wonder how it would run. My 6600 runs 3.6G, it should be at least somewhat comparable to your results there, I'd think.

Link me to that Koolance block if you get a chance. I don't know any Koolance reps here in Thailand so I might enlist your aid at some point if I decide to go that route...

BTW, here's a bonus points calculator for SMP2 if you're interested:

Ah...

The 6050 is no special WU.

The machine that's running on isn't the Q9450 @ 3.6, its 4x Xeon E7320 @ 2.13GHz

Quad Quad Core SMP 16.

There's another competitor that may challenge you for top spot in a few weeks that isn't really on the seen much at present, (another member).

Unfortunately that quad quad is unlikely to be a fulltime thing, he's just being tested at the moment. $30,000 is a bit steep anyway.

Well, 'tween your part-time 16-core box, Ron's motley crew of gear, Gizmo's 8-core rig on the way, gedon and Cliff and...god-knows what the heck WZ has in the hole, I'd might as well get my cash back on that GTX470.

A bloody nightmare. I won't be sleeping for days because of you guys. Thanks.

Well, actually you'd be better of just buying a second one. Don't know if you've heard about this, but GTX 470 cards get lonely on their own, and are best kept in pairs to keep each-other company.

Just need to spam the forums more. Don't know if you've seen Dan's post count, but of the several hard disks on the AOA server, one of them is SOLELY dedicated to Dan saying ":O}

Yeah, well, I've reconsidered. I no longer have any aspirations of being a Lounge Lizard. I'm going to return to ARS Technica and be a Tribunus Illegitimus non Carborundum.

Asus M3N-HT Delux, Phenom II 940, G-Skill 1066 DDR2. it'll be home for a pair of 9800GT's until my ship comes in.

edit: finally got the passkey setup on all clients today. also recieved the Koolance H2o blocks for the pair of 285GTX cards. that is a project unto itself.
