GTX4xx/GPU3 thread, post results and OCs here

I am hoping that we'll see a few more of these GTX 4xx cards on our team soon, so why not have a thread where we can discuss GPU3 folding?

================================================== ============================================

I've been experimenting to see how overclockable this Gigabyte GTX470 is, and it's been easy so far.

Overnight I got the shaders and the linked core (one can't be pushed without the other) to 721/1442. That's very, very close to the 480's 725/1450. It will go more. I also lowered stock voltage from 950mv to 925mv. It has been stable so far. With the fan at 75%, temps at these levels didn't exceed 69C. That's good, according to all reports.

I'll leave it here for a day or two to make sure it's stable, then see how much further it'll go. I think it's quite impressive that I was able to drop the voltage as well as go to a 20% overclock on the shaders/core. Makes me curious as to how much less voltage it really needs before crapping out. I may try that, then see how much headroom I've got and make some decisions where to leave it.

Screams out for water, though. The fan is noisy after 75%... guess that's my next project. From what I can see, there's too much headroom here not to go with water eventually.

Frame times on GPU3 WUs is down to 38 seconds from 47 at stock settings.

OK, so I've been playing around with this card and the voltages for a couple of days now, and here's what I've found.

Stock is: 607 core/1214 shaders/1674 mem
[Stock for GTX480 is 701/1402/924@1.1V]

Using OCCT, Kombustor, and the GPU3 folding client as stressors:

Stable to: 721/1442/1674 at stock voltage, 950mV. 74C fully loaded.

After 721 core I had to bump the voltage to stay stable.

740 required 962mV. 750 needed 975mV, etc.

My best OC, staying stable on all tests and under 80C was:

Core-800/Shaders-1600/Memory-1750 @ 1.050V That is a 32% overclock with a .1V increase, keeping it well within voltage spec.

All I can say is- Wow. I have no idea how much further it would go on water, but I limited myself to 80C, so there is still quite a bit of headroom there with better cooling. Frame times have gone to 35 seconds, ppd for folding is just over 15,000. I suppose I will be forced to do some benchmarking now

got an MSI N460GTX Cyclone SC. stock clocks are,
core=728MHz
shader=1456MHz
memory=1800MHz
core V=.987mV
temp-48c
fan-61%
F@H=9400ppd

I didn't leave it there long and now,
core-750MHz
shader=1500Mhz
mem-1800MHz
coreV=.987mV
temp=48c
fan=61%
F@H=9600ppd

both F@H numbrts are quite close to the GTX 285 FTW @ default settings,
core=702MHz
shader=1584MHz
mem=323MHZ
coreV=1.22mV
temp=81c
fan=80%
F@H=9800ppd

haven't spent much time tweaking it yet. small increases in OC yield small increases in ppd.

I'll just have to step on it a little more today.

GtX460 now @ 775 core/ 1550 shader/ 1800 mem(stock)/ 1.025v(+.05) 46c and 9900ppd

so far there is no need to water cool this card. doesn't mean I won't.

right now there seems to be no end to the OC on this card. I know I'll find it sooner than later. the full .1v increase that TR used on his GTX470 is in the works. it is keeping pace with a stock 285GTX but much, much cooler and less power too!

Lots of headroom on these Fermis with water, I'm sure. I'm waiting for the block prices to come down a bit before buying one, though.

$110.00 for the 460 block. $115.00 for the pump/res. another $100.00 for rad/fans/fittings.

after upping the voltage .05, the core/shader to 775/1550, the temp never went up! the fan @ 61% is quieter than the cpu cooler (stock AMD).

Use a prog called hfm.net

Just do a google for it, I don't know the address offhand.

I'll guess you can do 10k ppd per card, or something like that. Crank 'em up.

LOL sometimes I make pretty good guesses

So 2 of them + SMP on a quad will give you somewhere in the neighborhood of 25K if you run 24 hours. Even if you don't, you will see some good results.

i should be able to climb the ladder a bit with that

Hows your 470 fold/game at the same time

5100 ppd - phenom 2 x4 965

Man this case and current setup full load not in air conditioning / is nice and cool compared to my old setup idle in air conditioning. My new setup full load cpu 56c , gpu 88c - old setup idle 75-80c idle gpu and cpu was idle around 50c

Just bought 2 GTS450s, EVGA 01G-P3-1450-TR

950/1903/1501 which nets just under 7.8k PPD. Bought the cards at $80 AMIR, feels like a good investment.

Only one card is up now (team 32), when I get the other up it iwill be team 45

Well, the easiest explanation, I've been a senior member (now moderator) at ocf for years, in fact, so long ago that Daniel actually promoted me to senior member (ocf), so that's where I spend most of my time.

Money has been tight so hadn't been folding, but got a good deal on the GTS450s and money has been a little better lately so I hope to stay at it.

Should see at least 7.7k PPD from me, hoping to add another (2) GTS450s or maybe GTX460s here in Jan/Feb

the GTX460 has been folding along @ 810 core, +.05v, on air. 10.7K/day.

best of all, I got the half dead 295 folding again and so far it's @ 100% and 12.9K/day.

That's all good news . We need all the help we can get.

Looks like we've lost SteveI. Has anyone been in touch with him? I wonder if he's got some folding problems.

darn, the half dead 295 is just half alive and folding. one of the gpu's is so bad that it wont complete a wu.

can only speculate that SteveI has been a very busy man and his family/job/business require his undivided attention.

Maybe it's time to try the baking job on that GPU, Ron. I'd love to see if one of us can resurrect a card that way.
