GPU3 and WINE

I finally got some time to play around with WINE on my Gentoo machine. I was able to get the Cuda toolkit and the wrappers installed, as well as the client. I followed [generally, with some amendments, since the guide is for Ubuntu] these instructions:

Folding Forum • View topic - NVIDIA GPU3 Linux/Wine Headless Install Guide

Everything went smoothly, until I attempted to start the client:

Code:
   thunderrd@Q6600:~/FAH-GPU$ nice wine Folding@home-Win32-gpu.exe -verbosity 9 -forcegpu nvidia_g80

    Note: Please read the license agreement (Folding@home-Win32-gpu.exe -license). Further
    use of this software requires that you have read and accepted this agreement.

    [06:57:02] Gpu type=2 species=11.

The FAHWiki said this about 63... I'm not sure it's useful though - it came from here.

Generically, this error is reported when some initial fahcore startup requirement is not met.

Permission issues? (FAH V5.04)
Folding-community: Error starting Folding@Home core.

With the SMP for Windows client, a CoreStatus = 63 can either be a permissions problem or a MPI registration problem, or both. To fix the problem, set the properties of the fah.exe file to "Run as Administrator" and then run the "install.bat" file again to register MPI and the SMPD service.

Failure to install .NET 2.0 (Win 2K, XP) prior to installing the SMP client can also result in this error.

Solved the 63 = (99) by creating symlinks to the cuda files in the .wine directory in the GPU directory itself.

Now, the client starts, but hangs:

Code:
thunderrd@Q6600:~/FAH-GPU$ nice wine Folding@home-Win32-gpu.exe -verbosity 9 -forcegpu nvidia_fermi

Note: Please read the license agreement (Folding@home-Win32-gpu.exe -license). Further

It remains like that forever. I have to find out what I'm missing. Running this client through a compatibility layer is proving more difficult than I thought it would be. I'm afraid that I don't know enough about Windows API implementation to get it going without help.

I have posted in the Folding Community Forum, am waiting for assistance and will update as I progress.

Well at the very lest you let F@H know we are waiting on them to get this going... and that we won't wait forever, we will do it if they don't !

It is now working. I will try to get a short guide together but you will have to help me as I do not have a Mint install active, so my step-by-step will have to be tweaked.

You write the best basic guide you can without having mint present, I'll follow in Mint 13 and take careful (pictorial) notes of any discripences. I think were on the same page here.":O}

BTW Congratulations! Shouldn't the final product go up on front page...There must be quite a few waiting for this one...Yes?

RL has been getting in the way of me accomplishing my mission here, but it is on my radar. For the record, it is still running and has had no problems.

Good news on the "it works" Front! ":O}

I'm sure you've noticed I've been all but overwhelmed with cool things to do. So no worries, when you find the time I'll make the time (Being retired has lots of advantages!)

What kind of temps are you seeing? What card are you running?
