Running in the background?

I'm putting this here because I don't know where else to post it. I have something running in the background (accessing my HDD always) and don't know what but it's driving me nuts. heres what I've done and checked

Closed all programs except Explorer and System Tray

Run Virus scan (clean)

defrag.

scan disk

ran Ad-aware 6.0 (clean)

 ran Spy-Bot (clean)

Turned off damn near everything in msconfig

I've searched my HDD for anything that I don't reconise (found nothing)

 Anyone got any other ideas?

How do you mean the hard disk is always been accessed? Do you mean that the IDE light flashes regularly, or that you can hear the disk working away?

One program that's handy to see what's running is SysInternals Process Explorer . It's much better than the "task list" on 98, which only shows the tasks that haven't hidden themselves.

Humm are you networked? If i remember right windows has some sort of file checker for networks that keeps a up to date list of all files on the drive that is shared. For faster network folder access i think.
