Anyone know the ADSP-21xx series?

One of my classes this year is learning about digital signal processors and applications. We're starting off with an Analog Devices 2186, an old but very reliable solution (or so I'm told )

Anyone ever programmed this thing? We're starting off with the instruction set for the ALU (Arithmetic Logical Unit). It seems pretty straight forward so far, just have to keep track of AX and AY.

You don't know what a DSP is? Well, the strongest, fastest dedicated DSPs widely available are the GPUs in your video cards...

I've seen them, but never messed with them. My DSP experience is limited to the Motorola 56001 and a tiny bit of coding on the TI 320C10.

Yeah, I've seen 'em but never done anything on them.
