Experimental (needs IE4 sorry!)

I'm working on this thing...

anyway check it out:
The showroom

Currently, the page cannot load on any browser other than Internet Explorer 4 and above, sorry about that. I am working on a way to add compatibility for Navigator and fire fox for the future. Also, I didn't add any loading script so wait a few seconds (or minutes if you are a modem user) and the page will load. Think of it as a really big poster of Halle Berry

Tell me what you think and if the concept is interesting or not.

The zoom could be more sensitive/faster for me.

If I was buying, that would definitely interest me, more interested that you can do such work! Well done!

thnx ppl!
I've been dabbling in 3D scene programming for some time but there's no market interest for it where I currently live, so my skills haven't developed.
I made the zoom a little weak because I wanted the car to be fully visible, seemed a good idea at the time :P

Just try copying the link, opening a blank page and entering the address there. If that works then I'm in big trouble!! But it might be just my hosting service. Can I ask what internet connection do you have? modem dsl or T1?

I get the page but not the model when using IE 5.2 for mac. Oh well, I'm getting used to being left out of this and that. I'll still never have another Windows machine as my main computer.

Sorry but I don't think Microsoft added Directx to Macs (actually I have no idea, I've never seen a Mac) and even if they did it would be limited to a certain apps and not as heavily embedded as in Windows. There's always Java 3d . actually I'm trying to work out a development process where I can use the same models, textures and psuedo code so I can then create Directx, Opengl and software 3d java for websites with 3d applications. That way the site can switch to the mode that is most compatible for the veiwer's system.

I didn't make the mercedes model but guess where I got it from ?

You're exactly right. DirectX does not exist for the Mac. Which is the reason that if a game isn't made for the PC in OpenGL, there is absolutely no chance you'll ever see it on the mac. For example, lots of people would like to see a Mac port of HL2. Not gonna happen.

Just on a side note, OpenGL is fully compatable with Windows (to the best of my knowledge) so why not just make your models in OGL so it will be cross-compatable with more browsers and setups?

I don't know how to model. I've spent most of my time working on parts of gfx engines and never started with modelling. If you want to get a proffessional to model that car for you, you can try CGTalk. It's a forum for proffessional graphic and 3D animation artists. The guys over there are friendly and if you could interest them in why you need the 3d model someone could do it as a favour.

Since nobody guessed it I might as well say it: The car was ripped from Need For Speed 6

Check out ingame pic

Thanks for commenting, now I'm encouraged to work on this some more.

I'm not very clear on how internet explorer on the Mac works, I mean does the Mac version support ActiveX components or does it have it's own plugin system? I also don't want to say to mac users 'if you are using a mac, please use netscape navigator as the Mac internet explorer is weird'

I also have no experience developing components for netscape navigator.

i'll start with Java as an alternative 3d engine 'cause it's the easiest to start with, although it won't be hardware accelerated. I have a great Java engine I found a few years back which was discontinued. I'll see if the author will give me permission to modify and use it for myself as it's amazing and a lot of work was put into it.

ActiveX is proprietary system used by Microsoft, meaning that Windows computers are the only ones you're likely to ever see it supported on. Other OSes tend to use open systems (OpenGL.) Microsoft did a pretty good job with ActiveX and it became the foremost graphical engine for games, which is why most games never see the light of day outside of Windows.

So, since that model is ActiveX, no one who isn't using a Windows PC will be able to see it.

You seem to confuse ActiveX with DirectX. From the net:
Quote:
A set of technologies that enables software components to interact with one another in a networked environment, regardless of the language in which the components were created. ActiveX is built on Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM). Currently, ActiveX is used primarily to develop interactive content for the World Wide Web, although it can be used in desktop applications and other programs. ActiveX controls can be embedded in Web pages to produce animation and other multimedia effects, interactive objects, and sophisticated applications
In plain english, it allows you to save code you spent countless nights sweating over in a special ActiveX file, and later on be able to use all the functions in that file on a new program you're writing. You can even sell the file as a 'component' so that others with more money and less initiative can gain from your work .

This is actually the Java Classes idea stolen in grand Microsoft fashion. It will probably only be available for Windows.

I'm pondering using one of these technologies:
Anark
WildTangent

They both use OpenGL and I would need 6 months to come up with something that's on the same level. Recently I have had more interest in content than in coding, especially after playing Doom 3 .
