Microsoft, IE8, and the META-madness

Written by Gizmo

Microsoft have come up with a non-standard standard way to implement standard non-standard behavior.

To be sure, they worked with people from the Web Standards Group (WaSP) and other developers to lend some air of legitimacy, but basically what they've done is just what I said above. To understand what this is all about and what it means, we need to back up a little and take a look at some history.

And if the world of browsers is not enough they also want to change the default file format of their future Office products to OOXML and thereby abandoning support for the opendocument standards. It's not compatible with any opendocument standard and moreover it's not 'open' by any means. This means that Office content filtering software needs a radical change, among many other disadvantages.
If you would be so kind to take a look at this page and maybe sign the petition, that would be great.
And maybe spam the petition around a bit too

NoOOXML: Will you let Microsoft represent your country in Geneva?
NoOOXML: NO to the Microsoft Office format as an ISO standard

Cheers
