help with file uploader

I wonder if anyone knows how to create a web page that lets you select a file and then it upload from the PC to the server hosting the site without using ftp.
My college has blocked all ftp access so I cant upload work to my machine at home. So I wonder if this could possibly get me round it??

This is just a thought, I hold no responsibility over how right it is, how real the syntax is and just how much of it my brain has invented of it's own accord.

I think it's something like....

<body>
<form method= "post" action= "whatever your file handler is...">
<input type= "whatever the type of the file is" name="name of file" etc etc>
</form>
</body>

No idea if that'll work. Making it up as I go along really! Some other clever web monkey here will know better than I. Web programming isn't really my thing.

Doesn't your college allow ssh or anything? Surely if they've removed ftp and not supplied a replacement method you shouldn't actually be uploading anything. Why not just use email?!?!

I think it needs to be "type=submit" in the input flag. Just from my out of date book
