K6 233mmx

Will this complete deadlines? I just found a complete system in my garage It was my dads old computer from a while back. Has a hdd, cdrom, 64mb pc100 (i think), and a VooDoo2
If I put this to work I cant claim just intel power Prehaps ill just put a p233 in it
Anyone know if I could put like a k62-500 in this thing? and what times would that get?

OK. what mobo? Surer Socket 7? I'm sure it needs 100 fsb to run K6-2 500/550. the 233 is 66Mhz fsb and the mem is prolly 66 too.

If the board is 66MHz FSB, the fastest you can run the CPU is at 400MHz, this is done by selecting the 2X multiplier with the latter stepping K6-2s, the pin-out was modified on these CPUs to allow this multiplier. But in any case it doesn't matter, folding with a K6 anything is just pathetically slow.

Would a p233mmx (or 266 if i can find one) be better than a k6?

IMHO the P-? is not any better. there is another thread about a
trick used to force core 78 that may make the P-233/266 fold at a
reasonable speed. I doubt it will do much good.
Allen, I too know that ANY (stable) wu is better than none. slow
or not, get that sucker foldin'.

anyone know what wu times I could expect from a p233/266mmx or a k62 or k63 400?

did some digging and found that the socket 7 233/266 could do a
wu in a day. that was 10+ months ago. there are newer protiens
and I am just not sure. I don't know anyone folding with anything
less than a 500. they are just too dang slow. I use my K6-2 500
to access the net and do the mundane things.

Bah, It would cost me $40 to get a k63 or a p233mmx in there.
Im just going to canabalize the computer to add to other folding boxes. $40 is too much, espically somthing that wont get good times.
Ram, videocard, hdd, cdrom would be useful
Everything else is just junk, including the case. AT crap
Oh well, thanks for help

My K6-2 400s do a P180 or P182 in about 4-5 days. Forget which one was but a gromacs unit, a 6 pointer went right to the line it had like a 12 day timeout.

I have a bunch of K6-2s on the way, and I have spare boards that I'm throwing together a K6-2 based farm with. Should get 3Ghz doing approx 50-60 points per week. (mumble) for team 32 (/mumble)

BigRed,
$40 bucks is a morgan .
If you are looking to spend little, and get another system out of it, go to newegg.. get a refurb mobo, many are under $50... stick in a 1+gig morgan CPU, get a cheap case, and the rest of the pc can come from the parts you have.

It could cost as little as $130, and may actually be a usable PC.
good luck.

RoadWarrior,
who you fold for, is not nearly as important as how much you fold with. Fold on dude.

Big Red, I got a K6-2 for 475 for $12.00 on ebay once, you may be able to find a similar deal. Also, that board may have a setting for 83MHz bus, which would allow you to run it at 500MHz (6x83). Many socket 7 boards had undocumented busspeed settings that could only be found by experimenting with jumpers or DIP switches.

But how fast would it fold? I might not even be worth it.

On how fast K6-2s fold and whether they're worth it, my K6-2 400 just picked up a P185, 9 pointer it would seem, it's doing a frame in 1:20 which is awesome, should be finished in 5 and a half days, P180s and 182s seem to take nearly that long for only 5.59 points. So on good WUs a 500 should average 2 points a day 14 points a week run 24/7

www.compgeeks.com have a 500 for $26 or a 400 for $19, the 400s should do 500 with a cheapy socket A/370 fan.

I figured out a while back, on tinker units, a K6-2 Mhz is worth a P4 Mhz, so it makes as much sense as running a P4
