New Graphic card for folding Ati V Nvidia

Hi All
Just about to replace my old 1900XTX and have 2 options.
In terms of folding and what would be the difference in ppd
between a GTX260 or a 4870 1GB card.Although at the mo a GTX260
(216 cores)may be out of my budget.
Any help appreciated.

Right now, the ATI cards blow the nVidia cards out of the water on the newer, larger proteins. The big core problems that nVidia is having at this time don't help.

Also, Pande is looking at restructuring the points system to alleviate the windfall [an almost unfair advantage at this time] that nVidia owners are currently experiencing.

My money says that ATI will be the better card in the midrange future. My next cards will be ATI for that reason, but right now I am enjoying big points. Trust me, it's a temporary advantage.

nVidia owners, enjoy it while it lasts, it won't go on forever.

Hi ThunderRd
Ta for the quick reply.Think I'll go the 4870 route as the GTX260 is just outa budget.
Gone are the days when I spend £350 on a graphics card.
The last 4 out of 5 cards Ive had have been Ati and they have all been good.
Just wondering if a Dual core opteron at 3.1Ghz would hold it back but going
Core2Quad soon anyway.plus a 24 inch monitor.

You may have to wait for a short bit, but I don't think you will be disappointed folding-wise, as soon as the current smoke clears.

BTW you won't be held back by the Opteron. The GPU needs only one core.
