The BBFC has refused to certify Rockstar Games' Manhunt 2 title, which means it can't be sold in the UK.

The BBFC says "Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing,".

"There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game," it added, and highlighted "the game's unrelenting focus on stalking and brutal slaying and the sheer lack of alternative pleasures on offer to the gamer".

Rockstar Games could appeal against the decision, but we don't kown if they will.

Sometimes the BBFC will ask the developer to make a few changes, in order to meet certification. But, in the case of Manhunt 2, they felt it would not be possible.
